The 2nd Commando Battalion (2 Cdo), proudly stationed in Flawinne, is one of the most prestigious units in the Belgian Armed Forces. As a key pillar of the Special Operations Regiment, it represents the highest standards of discipline, operational readiness, and tactical excellence.

With a legacy shaped and strengthened through intense historical challenges, such as wars, peacekeeping missions and high-risk operations and a future focused on innovation and adaptability, the 2 Cdo continues to serve as a symbol of Belgium’s military strength and global commitment. As part of the BEL Special Operations Forces, 2 Cdo’s main tasks are SR (Special Reconnaissance), DA (Direst action) and MA (Military assistance) as well as NEO (Non-combatant Evacuation Operations). The unit is specialized in rapid deployment, air assault and airborne operations, amphibious warfare, combat patrol and commando raids.

At the heart of the 2nd Commando Battalion are its two combat companies that form the operational core of the battalion, each composed of highly trained commandos capable of executing a wide range of missions in diverse environments.
They conduct rigorous physical and tactical preparation, including parachuting and commando techniques.
Each company is organized to operate independently or jointly, depending on the mission.

SSR Company

This company has an incredible range of capabilities to support combat companies or to conduct autonomous actions. It also has a wide range of deployment capabilities, including LRP (Long Range Patrol, amphibious, subsurface and High-altitude parachute insertion. The SSR company comprises the following capabilities: snipers, fire support, special reconnaissance (Land, Air & amphibious), UAS & C-UAS and engineering capabiliti es (boats, divers, Explosive Detection Dogs and destruction).

Command staff and staff company

The command staff plays a central role in the planning, coordination, and leadership of all battalion activities. While staff company ensures that everything is logistically supported, including the management, planning, and coordination of resources to ensure the availability, maintenance, and transport of equipment, materials, supplies, and services essential to military operations.
